An In Vitro Analysis of Sodium Hypochlorite Decontamination for the Reuse of Implant Healing Abutments, Ahmad H. Almehmadi, BDS, DSc – Journal of Oral Implantology (2021) 47 (4): 271–279.

A study, published in August 2021 in the Journal of Oral Implantology, analyzes the decontamination of healing abutments with NaCl.

The analysis shows that even if decontamination with NaCl makes it possible to remove all traces of bacteria, deposits remain present at the interstices.
A more in-depth study of the composition of these elements will need to be carried out before determining whether the reuse of healing abutments decontaminated with NaCl can be considered.
